TĀLĀ ENTA AYEZ (YOU WISH) FT. SADAT & ALAA FIFTY
We've been fans of Kingston producer-vocalist TĀLĀ ever since the mouthwatering, genre-bending The Duchess EP landed in our inbox last year. At the time, we hadn't heard anything quite as fresh or invigorating in the electronic world in what felt like an age, TĀLĀ and her expansive vision for the project was the antidote to a swathe of cheap EDM and soulless chart-friendly pop-house. She hasn't stopped innovating since, despite entering a major label environment where her creativity could easily be stifled. New EP MALIKA is out next month, and it'll feature collaborations with Banks and Turkish vocalist Atiye, as well as the latest cut to be aired, 'Enta Ayez (You Wish)'. Eschewing comparisons to the likes of M.I.A., TĀLĀ's 'Enta Ayez (You Wish)' finds more common ground with the likes of Shlohmo with rubbery beat patterns and churning synths coming to the fore alongside deliciously warped vocal chops. It's all tied together by Egyptian artists Sadat and Alaa Fifty (founders of the mahraganat movement) whose exhilarating rapping adds a restlessness symbolic of the nations Arab Spring. This is the moment TĀLĀ cements her position as one of the truest artists we have in the UK. - DC
